Most people think generational wealth means handing over money, property or a business to the next generation. But that is only half the picture. In this snippet featuring Michael G Donkor, we break down why the real inheritance is not the asset itself, but the skillset and knowledge that let the next generation actually use it.

We get into why generational wealth is built slowly, not overnight and why patience and compounding matter more than the rush to "make it now." We also talk through what actually counts as generational wealth, from stocks and property to a family business or even crypto and why none of it lasts without the know-how to manage it.

The heart of the conversation lands on a simple idea: It is one thing to own the farm, it is another thing to be a farmer. Pass down the asset without the skill and it gets lost. Pass down the knowledge, and each generation can build on what came before. If you care about building real, lasting wealth for your family and your community, this one is for you.

What we cover:

Adrian: And then getting into a rhythm of investing over time and being patient with building wealth. I think there was always this idea that ⁓ you know, you should just generate wealth like that. ⁓ and then turn it into generational wealth all of a sudden. Because everyone talks about generational wealth as this is like here or as if it's in the next generation. Generational wealth is over time. ⁓ so we need to be patient with ourselves a little bit as well. Yeah. ⁓ as much as we we do want ⁓ money now to cover our lifestyle and make sure that even just for the bare minimum for s for some of us as well. ⁓ I think when we're talking about kind of growing our money or you know, we wanna be considering that it might have to take time. Especially if we're talking about compound interests. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. And I think that's the whole basis of generational wealth I suppose. Generational wealth can can be built and last over generations. And would you say generational wealth can be anything such as maybe passing on passing on a business to, you know, to to, you know, ⁓ to your children or stocks and shares or property. Yeah. Or even crypto. Can it be almost any kind of asset class or I don't even think it's just asset class. I think it can be ⁓ like knowledge. ⁓ I think it the asset class is important because it allows for the next generation to to leverage of that. I mean I don't know what we're seeing in the news at the moment there's a lot of talk about ⁓ the royal family having generational wealth and you know benefiting off the back of that. I won't go into too much detail, I don't want to get in trouble. ⁓ but You know, with these ⁓ these individuals have managed to accumulate wealth over time that they're able to to benefit off other people as well. and it means that, you know, the next generation are ab able to to to leverage off that if it's done properly. ⁓ but then there's also this aspect of ⁓ you know, information. You know, if you pass the right information down ⁓ to to certain people, your family members or whoever the next generation is, ⁓ they might be able to to use that to to leverage in the space that they're in. Yeah. I think sometimes, if we were to go back to the farmers, I wanna just go back to the farmers, but you know, we're talking about them passing down a skill set. Not just the asset. It's one thing to have the farm, it's another thing to be a farmer.
