Let's keep this conversation flowing Carlita so
00:00:02
so there was a there was an interview that came out
00:00:05
a while ago with Del Titus so he's a pretty strong
00:00:08
evangelist here in Ghana in terms of the web free space
00:00:11
and I mean I saw an interview of him and Denta who's quite a well-known personality
00:00:16
here in Ghana and they had a conversation about web free and crypto and the
00:00:20
blockchains and one interesting thing he said Carlita was that he feels that
00:00:26
Africa or Ghana per se is ready for or, you know, the Web3, the blockchain,
00:00:30
the crypto, because you have the likes of Google,
00:00:33
you know, they've got their headquarters in Accra.
00:00:36
Twitter was here, but of course, that's, you know, they've come and packed up
00:00:40
their bags because of Elon, you know, doing what he's doing.
00:00:43
And, you know, you've got other, you know, tech companies, you know,
00:00:46
that have established themselves in Ghana.
00:00:48
So there's a lot happening, you know, in this space. And I think just off the
00:00:51
call, I mentioned Jack Dorsey, you know, comes to Ghana quite a bit.
00:00:54
And, you know, he always He always finds himself at the Africa Bitcoin Conference,
00:00:58
which runs every early December for a few days.
00:01:02
Why do you feel Ghana or Africa per se is ready for crypto, Bitcoin,
00:01:07
I mean, sorry, Web3, blockchain, you know, all of these new technologies,
00:01:11
these emerging technologies?
00:01:14
So that's a great question. I think to be honest, I think Ghana and I think
00:01:19
Africa on the whole almost doesn't have a choice but to get into this market
00:01:25
to the industry. The market is so fresh.
00:01:28
I like to tell people that we're still in the beta series of blockchain crypto. crypto.
00:01:35
There's only under 1% of the world who's even invested into cryptocurrency.
00:01:40
So we're still in the early stages. And I believe that the market is amazing in Ghana.
00:01:46
I believe that there's quite a few startups in Ghana.
00:01:50
It's still an up and emerging industry there where a lot of people are curious.
00:01:55
I know last summer, University of Ghana just started their blockchain,
00:02:00
first blockchain course.
00:02:01
So I know they're trying to integrate it.
00:02:05
They're trying to get the youth. The youth actually already are interested in
00:02:08
it. Some people are trading.
00:02:10
Some people are investing into cryptocurrency specifically.
00:02:14
And I think it's just a great market. It's a place where people are starting
00:02:19
to see that cryptocurrency and blockchain is allowing Africans,
00:02:23
allowing Ghanaians to have an even playing field with the rest of the world now.
00:02:28
When you look at Dubai, Dubai is the hub of crypto right now.
00:02:32
Ghana can be like Dubai. you know it's
00:02:35
it's there's very large possibility of that happening here there's so many natural
00:02:40
resources here and so encompassing that with the industries that are already
00:02:46
there is going to help the market's going to help the different industries to
00:02:49
grow and uh and be powerful.
00:02:53
Yeah there's a very interesting comments you made
00:02:55
kalita yeah i feel like where the economy is going where the
00:02:58
government's going where banks are moving us all banks are
00:03:01
moving a lot more digital I've noticed in Ghana
00:03:04
as well even the phone companies as well
00:03:07
I think you know some of these mobile money transfer platforms
00:03:11
as well you could see them kind of moving into
00:03:14
crypto in the future you could kind of see that transition there
00:03:17
it's mentioned it's quite interesting you mentioned you know you could see Ghana
00:03:21
or Accra per se as you know being like another Dubai because I think during
00:03:25
the 2020-2021 lockdown period what you found was people that weren't able to
00:03:31
make money through the usual means, they actually got their phones.
00:03:36
They started that downloading, you know, apps like Binance or what have you,
00:03:39
or the equivalent in Ghana and Africa, and they were actually able to make money
00:03:43
through, you know, buying, selling, trading crypto.
00:03:46
So yeah, I think, you know, the interesting thing about Ghana Africa is that
00:03:50
a lot of people have smartphones and once you can get on the internet,
00:03:53
you know, the rest is history.
00:03:56
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, exactly. Mm-hmm, okay, cool.
00:04:00
So, I mean, speaking of Ghana, I mean, you, of course, let's talk about your
00:04:03
trip to Ghana, your recent trip to Ghana, actually.
00:04:05
So we're now in February 2024, as we're recording this episode.
00:04:10
Tell us a bit about your trip to Ghana and this was your first time and what
00:04:14
you got up to during this particular trip.
00:04:17
Yes, so it's been my fourth time to Ghana.
00:04:20
I absolutely loved it. The other times, the first time I went,
00:04:24
I stayed about two months and absolutely loved it.
00:04:28
This trip, I got to stay about five weeks.
00:04:30
And it was really nice. This trip, I got to actually explore a little more.
00:04:35
I got to go to Cape Coast. I got to visit the slave castles.
00:04:40
And this trip was very meaningful to me.
00:04:45
You know, the first time I came to Ghana, it was trying to explore Ghana.
00:04:49
And first time actually in Africa. And so it was an amazing opportunity.
00:04:55
So the first time was, okay, let me kind of test out the waters and see how it is.
00:05:00
Get to enjoy Dutty December and the festivities, concerts.
00:05:06
And so this trip was more of a business trip for me.
00:05:09
And to kind of delve into the market a little more and to meet people and to network. work.
00:05:15
I did a lot of networking, which was great.
00:05:18
And I got to visit the Jubilee House as well. I was really, really excited about that.
00:05:24
And I really got to see the history and visited Independence Square.
00:05:29
And I realized there's so much opportunity in Ghana, especially when it comes to tourism.
00:05:35
I could see the door opening there, especially when it comes to North Americans.
00:05:40
I see a lot of Americans coming to Ghana, but not as many Canadians.
00:05:44
So I'm trying to, I'd love to kind of get more Canadians to see, like myself.
00:05:50
The the beauty of the culture and the history and the
00:05:53
people and so that's what i really got to
00:05:56
do this time around and it was it was fantastic it was
00:05:59
amazing absolutely fantastic um it
00:06:02
sounds like quite an accomplished busy trip as well
00:06:04
it sounds like you packed in a lot in five weeks you know networking business
00:06:08
business touring travel enjoyment as
00:06:11
well of course you can't come here without enjoyment you know so glad
00:06:14
you got to pack in is what you did sounds like a
00:06:17
well you know you know a well-deserved and
00:06:20
you know a well you know time used trip
00:06:23
but yeah i think you are right in terms of you
00:06:26
know there's a lot of americans coming of course the british have been coming
00:06:29
you know no pun intended for many years as well but yeah
00:06:33
i think canadians i think we're starting to see a lot more canadians start
00:06:36
to come as well but i think you do have quite there are quite
00:06:39
a number of canadians around you know you've got like ivy prosper
00:06:42
you know popular youtuber she's around you know she
00:06:44
came on the show last season you've got living ghana you
00:06:47
know run by frank mensah he's he's canadian and he runs you know that property
00:06:52
company in ghana and and 54 tours 54 gold tours i believe it's another canadian-based
00:06:57
tour company in ghana so you do have quite a few canadians emerging and you
00:07:01
know i'm sure that's just gonna grow so yeah i'm sure you'll find the.
00:07:07
That's right yes amazing trip amazing trip so okay cool let's let's keep this
00:07:13
moving So tell us through AFRI
00:07:15
